Target Bulk Promotion Competes with Warehouse Clubs

According to this article in retailwire, Target will be giving consumers all the benefits of bulk deals found at stores like Costco and BJ's without the need for any membership fees that these warehouse clubs usually charge.

"The Great Save" event will run from January 3rd through February 21st and it will give consumers a treasure hunt experience on designer brands, and a way to stock up post holiday season. There will be "Great Save" location inside roughly 1,000 participating Target stores across the U.S. It will be interesting to see what other huge stores will follow suit.

Costco No Longer Does Business with Coca-Cola

According to this article in retailwire, the largest warehouse club store in the US, Costco, has decided to stop doing business altogether with Coca-Cola. Costco has mentioned that Coca-Cola has not given the warehouse competitive pricing and so Costco is not able to pass along the discounts over to their members.

Brands associated with Coca-Cola like Coke Classic, Cherry Coke, Black Cherry Vanilla Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite and Squirt, Dasani Water and Vitamin Water along with several energy drinks will also cease to be sold at Costco warehouses.

Costco Heads Down Under

Costco, the American retailer that rivals Sam's Club with wholesale prices available to the general public with membership with soon be heading to Australia. According to The Australian, Costco Australia managing director Patrick Noone said the store in Melbourne's inner-city Docklands precinct would open five months ahead of its original schedule, but the timing was perfect to attract shoppers on tighter household budgets. Will Aussies take a liking to big amounts and low prices? We'd like to hear your thoughts.
